COLUMBUS, OH (November 10, 2022) – The Pelotonia community has raised more than $258 million directly supporting cancer research since the ground-breaking effort was established in 2008. The Pelotonia community raised $21,815,484 in 2022, surpassing last year’s fundraising by more than 10 percent and solidifying the community as
one of the largest peer-to-peer fundraising organizations in the country.
“Pelotonia has demonstrated that a grassroots effort can drive incredible change, and it’s no surprise that this has established the Pelotonia community as an unstoppable force in advancing life-saving cancer research,” said Doug Ulman, CEO of Pelotonia. “Surpassing a quarter of a billion dollars in funds raised is nothing short of extraordinary. We’re incredibly proud of the commitment the Pelotonia community has shown this year and their excitement to continue this momentum in 2023 for Pelotonia’s 15th anniversary.”
Pelotonia, a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating funding for innovative cancer research, directs 100 percent of every dollar raised by participants to
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James). The community’s unwavering support, and that of its generous funding partners, continues to galvanize positive impact at a time when delayed cancer screenings and treatment are altering the lives of patients worldwide and while innovative research opportunities and ideas outpace national funding capacity.
“Efforts like Pelotonia are crucial to closing the funding gap and advancing the future of cancer care, research and treatment,” said
Raphael Pollock, MD, PhD, director of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. “One example of the community’s impact is the new Proton Therapy Center at the OSUCCC – James, which is supported in part by Pelotonia dollars. When this therapy is appropriate, it’s a very important option – especially for patients with tumors surrounded by delicate surrounding structures like the brain and prostate as well as for the treatment of pediatric cancers. Proton therapy, similar to work underway at the
Pelotonia Institute of Immuno-Oncology, is another cutting-edge tool we are able to bring to Central Ohio to advance cancer treatments and provide highly focused, specialized treatment for each patient’s unique cancer characteristics. Pelotonia support is, and will continue to be, critical to these efforts.”
Pelotonia celebrates the thousands of participants who supported the 2022 fundraising campaign. Sights are set for a remarkable 15th year in 2023 with Ride Weekend scheduled to take place August 4-6, 2023. Registration for Pelotonia 2023 will open March 1.
