Behind The Scenes
Together, We Rise.

By Doug Ulman|March 26, 2020

Dear Friends,
For the past 11 years, the Pelotonia community has gone above and beyond to make our mission of accelerating innovative cancer research possible. As we continue our critical work during this unprecedented time of need, we must now find additional ways to mobilize our movement and leverage our collective resources for the benefit of so many impacted by COVID-19. Today we are announcing the following initiatives and actions which will provide support for urgent needs in our community:
  • In collaboration with The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute and the broader Ohio State University research enterprise, Pelotonia is creating a research fund, with an initial pledge of $1 million, to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on the cancer community.
  • We have launched a new website at pelotonia.org/RISE. This site will offer new ways to connect the global Pelotonia community while providing relevant resources, the latest information, and inspiring content. We will also host a series of community-wide livestream events, the first of which will take place on Friday, March 27 at 3:30 p.m. EST featuring Ethan Zohn, a three-time Pelotonia rider, cancer survivor, and winner of the television show Survivor Africa.
  • Starting today, 100% of all net profits from purchases made on The Pelotonia Shop through June 1, 2020 will be donated to support the well-being of healthcare workers at The James and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. These funds will be used to pay for meals, beverages and other necessary resources for those who are working around the clock to protect the health of others.
  • While the need for innovative, fast-tracked cancer research is as urgent today as ever before, we realize that the economic uncertainties and the critical needs of our community are currently overwhelming. As a result of these unprecedented times, we have decided to not enforce Pelotonia fundraising commitments this year. Our team will continue to offer innovative resources and incentives to our community of fundraisers and our focus remains to deliver an amazing experience in 2020.
  • We are all operating in a world of changing information and significant unknowns. Our team is working daily to creatively think through the best way to offer a first-class Pelotonia experience this August and will continue to transparently share news about Ride weekend as we know more.
  • We are collaborating with our friends at Hot Chicken Takeover, Jeni’s, Homage, Roosevelt Coffee and more to provide food to the most vulnerable in our community, including front-line healthcare workers.
  • Our team is working to deploy the resources that we currently have in our warehouse to support organizations in need. We have provided tents to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank for the National Guard to use while serving food to individuals in need, and we will be contributing additional items including hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes and more in the coming days to additional organizations.
Please reach out to us if we can help to support you and your family in any way during this period of uncertainty. The Pelotonia community has always risen to the occasion and we know we will do so again in these difficult times.
We are continually inspired by the collective action of so many and we know that we can accomplish anything if we work together.
Together we are unstoppable.
